In 2017, we, the Education Support Center on Food insecurities (ESC), recognized the need for a program that would specifically address the needs of the growing number of homeless people. The unfortunate individuals who have been left to fend for themselves, without a single crumb of food to eat.
We were surprised by the number of homeless people who need our support.
So, we run several programs to help us feed these people, and open volunteering opportunities to help our small group run our programs.
We’re an independent non-profit that doesn’t receive funds from the government, so we have to sustain our programs on our own.
That’s before the global COVID-19 pandemic.
When the pandemic hits, we saw a significant increase in homeless people that need our support.
We’ve had a tough challenge for some time.
But the pandemic has heightened it to the next level.
